Guiding Principle #1: Provide youth-friendly programming
Section 1: Program Information and Access
Is your program information easy for youth to understand (e.g., uses plain language, free of policy jargon, available in multiple formats including text and video, etc.)?
Is your program information distributed directly to youth? (e.g., advertised through social media platforms, available in community centers, promoted in community by youth-specific outreach staff, etc.)?
Do you build relationships with youth-serving community spaces to create pathways that expose and connect youth to your program (e.g., high schools and post-secondary institutions, libraries, community centers, community health centers, etc.)?
Is your program information easy for youth to understand (e.g., uses plain language, free of policy jargon, available in multiple formats including text and video, etc.)?
Do you build relationships with youth-serving community spaces to create pathways that expose and connect youth to your program (e.g., high schools and post-secondary institutions, libraries, community centers, community health centers, etc.)?
Is your program application/registration process accessible to youth (e.g., straightforward fillable application is posted on your website and social media channels, drop-in and phone registration is available, etc.)?
Does your program make multiple attempts to help youth register once they express interest?
Section 2: Pre-Employment Support
Does your program make spaces comfortable/easy as possible to participate (e.g., feminine hygiene products available in bathrooms, healthy snacks? etc.)
Are your program spaces welcoming and accessible to YWD (e.g., sensory friendly spaces available, closed captioning and automatic transcripts enabled in virtual spaces, physical spaces are wheelchair accessible, interpreter/translation services available, etc..)?
Does your organization’s culture embody equity accessibility, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) (e.g., your staff team is diverse, all staff have access to EDI training, staff model safety and inclusion in their interactions with program participants and one another, etc.)?
